As we closely follow the evolving situation around COVID-19, our goal is to keep the GCDS community informed at every step. The safety and health of our students is our top priority. Since COVID-19 began on March, 2020, Glenwood Country Day School HAS NOT closed one day due to the pandemic. By following our guidelines set forth by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), we were able to continue teaching our children in our community. We will continue to implement safe practices based on the current CDC guidelines.

Around the World in a Summer!

Each day, campers will experience fun activities with their one teacher all day.  The teacher will be rotating throughout the 40-acre campus to our different stations.  The stations include STEM, sports and games, art, science and nature, music and drama, and multiple field games in our huge field.  In addition to going to the stations, they will also get cooled off frequently in our pool and water sprinklers and water pads.

Glenwood Country Day School’s Summer Adventure Camp offers many different opportunities for campers to learn, grow and have fun all summer long.

  • All our staff counselors are degreed educators, bringing their knowledge and experience into all aspects of the day.

What is the camp's COVID regulations?

Glenwood Country Day School / Summer Adventures Camp never closed one day during the pandemic.  Due to the strict precautions that were given to us by the CDC (Center for Disease Control,) we were able to have a summer camp in 2020, 2021 and will continue to have camp during the summer of 2021.  We will continue to implement safe practices based on the current CDC guidelines.  They are listed below:

  • Drop-off and Pick-up times are pre-arranged via sign-up genius the Tuesday before the following week.  We implement staggered arrival/departure times in order to implement health checks.  When the parent drops off, you must be here at your scheduled time. At your pick-up time, the parent will have a 30-minute window.

         Drop-off Procedure

  1.  The parent pulls their car up to the arrival tent.
  2. A teacher will come to your car to watch the parent take their child’s temperature with their own thermometer and it is recorded into our school log. As the temperature is being taken, the teacher asks the CDC (Center for Disease Control) questions about COVID-19. If the child has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, the child is unable to stay at school.
  3. The child is then escorted by our teachers to wash their hands.

       Pick-up Procedure

  1. Parent pulls their car up to the tent at their scheduled pick-up time.
  2. A designated teacher will escort the child to the parent’s car.

     Our Staff

  1. When a teacher arrives at our school, the Director takes their temperature and asks them the CDC questions in regards to COVID-19. If the teacher has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, he/she is unable to stay at school.

     Illness due to COVID-19

  1. Any teacher or child exposed to a person diagnosed with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19:
    1. They May not work or attend school until they have completed self-quarantine following the CDC guidelines.  People who have recovered from COVID-19 must be cleared for release from isolation according to CDC guidelines.
    2. If a class has a teacher or child that is found to have a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 at the facility:
      1. The class shall quarantine following the CDC guidelines.
      2. Individuals may not work at or attend until completing self-quarantine and obtaining clearance from an individual primary-care physician.
      3. Follow-exposure plan in the school’s health program.
      4. Communicate with the health department.

      6. Wait 24 hours, then complete extra cleaning/disinfection of the facility, all areas not just high touch surfaces, and wait at least 5 days to bring in the next group.

3. If a staff member or a child develops symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath) during school, safely isolate the person and place a mask or face covering in our Isolation Room. Contact the youth health supervisor and the parent/guardian immediately of any case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and arrange for safe transportation to a healthcare facility or home. Advise those who have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 to stay home, self-monitor for symptoms, and follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.

4.  If your child becomes ill while at school, you will be notified immediately of your child’s prompt dismissal. If your child is sent home with a fever of 100 degrees, diarrhea, vomiting, etc., your child may not return to school for at least 24 hours after the symptoms have stopped. We will notify you promptly in the event of an emergency. Unless otherwise instructed, your child will be transported to the nearest hospital.

5.  Every child will stay with 1 very small class that has the same teacher all day. This model helps in preventing the speed of COVID-19. When our teachers rotate to different learning stations outdoors, on our 40 acres, the teachers will immediately disinfect touchable surfaces before going to the next learning station. The teacher will also model for her students the importance of washing their hands between our learning stations.

  • Further precautions to prevent COVID-19
  1. Each classroom has a Germ Guardian Air Purifier with HEPA filter and UVC
  2. Each child has their own Montessori washable mat that they will use to put their daily work on.
  3. Each child will have their own storage space for their computer, etc.
  4. Each child will be assigned an area in the classroom to do assigned activities.
  5.  Individual plastic school containers with their own supplies in it.
  6. For an extra layer of protection in each classroom, we replaced our normal filters with MERV13 filters.  They contain commercial, industrial, and medical-grade MERV13 material that protects against airborne particles.  MERV13 air filtration material cleans and protects schools, offices, warehouses, and medical facilities
  • Outside Learning – The children will continue to learn and play outside just as they did during our school year.  We will have stations throughout our 40 acres for the children to learn, collaborate, create, and play.  We will also keep our VIP potty and hand-washing stations.

Masks are Optional.  If you choose to have your child wear a mask outside or if we are inside, then have your child pack 1 or 2 masks in his/her back pack.  If you don’t want your child have a mask on, then you don’t have to pack it.

What should my child wear to camp?

Summer Tutoring

We teach children to swim in a safe, caring, positive, and fun environment. We recognize that each child is an individual with different emotional and developmental needs and abilities. We cater lessons to those needs. Beginners will focus on water acclimation, floating and kicking skills. Advanced swimmers focus on the various strokes such as freestyle and backstroke, then progress to butterfly and breaststroke. Your swimmers will also learn valuable safety rules and survival skills while we strive to encourage the development of your child’s self-esteem, confidence, responsibility and love of the water.

Parents should open the Swim Lesson Application and choose which camp weeks you would like your child to attend swim lessons. Circle the days that you would like for your child to attend. Please note that your child will need to be enrolled in our Summer Adventures Camp to attend swim lessons.

Glenwood Country Day School’s tutorial center provides a one-on-one personal academic support system. It is a safe, creative space where we help students ages 4 thru 15 become more successful. Our tutors share their knowledge of their subject matter by providing an active learning experience for their students by explaining difficult concepts and providing hands-on examples for exploration. They ENCOURAGE, MOTIVATE, INSPIRE, ENABLE students to develop confidence in their academic abilities.

Follow these easy steps today to make a difference for your child!

  • Return the Tutoring Application
  • Mrs. Stradling, Center Director, will contact you for an in-person conference about your child.
  • Parent returns Tutoring Contract after agreeing to enrollment in our tutoring program.

Scott and Katherine
  • I've said it before to Mrs. Poland, but I'll say it kids LOVE camp. I asked Ollie all kinds of questions on Saturday about it and he was getting very excited about everything he was telling me. He loves lunch outside. He also told me this weekend that he hurt his leg, but it was ok, Mrs. Harp would clean it and make it better at camp. Vivian usually dreads the idea of swim lessons, but because of camp, she thinks maybe she could handle swim lessons, and when I ask her if there is anything she doesn't like at camp, she told me she likes everything! Thank you for all of your hard work! Katie
  • I can't believe we're already signing up for the last week :( We are all so sad to see camp ending after next week. The kids really enjoyed it - they loved the activities and their teachers. Thanks for putting on a great camp, especially considering the pandemic! Erin
  • Ms. Poland, Following up with you via email after our parent/teacher conference last night. We want to thank you and the entire staff at Glenwood Country Day School (GCDS) for enduring the risk of the current pandemic by providing in-person education to our daughter. This summer, she was a rising Kindergarten student with learning delays with her speech. The virtual experience of the Spring of 2020 turned her off from learning and we saw her regress. We made the decision to enroll her in GCDS's Kindergarten program in the Fall of 2020 and it was the best decision we ever made. Our little girl, who was struggling with learning and turned off from the concept of online school, is now flourishing. Every day she is excited to go to school and most importantly her learning and comprehension is on par with other Kindergarten students. The other night, she read a sight word book to us and the look of pure joy and satisfaction on her face was something we will never forget. We are tremendously grateful to you and the rest of the GCDS staff for helping our daughter find her confidence and desire to learn. With many thanks, Matt & Tess Wiley Matt and Tess
  • Thank you for an amazing school year- the kids had a blast and learned so much! You guys are really awesome! Kristen
  • Thank you GCDS! When all other schools were virtual or hybrid this year, you made the courageous decision to go fully in person 5 days a week! And we made it through a whole school year with no COVID closings! On behalf of all working parents, THANK YOU!!!!! Darren
  • Hi Mrs. Poland, I wanted to let you know we are going to get a head start on our traveling for the 4th of July weekend. So the boys will not be at camp on Friday. I want to thank you & everyone at the camp! The boys are having a BLAST and we will definitely be back next summer!!! Stay cool, Kelly
  • Thanks to you and your great staff for once again doing a great job keeping our kids engaged and safe. Darren
  • I'm glad that Mr. Dameon will be continuing at the school. Our daughter talks about him a lot and it's clear to us that she really enjoyed being around him. Kudos to you, Ms. Poland and Mrs. Stradling, for putting together a rockstar team. Adam and Nicole
  • Hi Mrs. Poland, My son had a great experience at Glenwood Country Day Camp this summer. It was his first summer at the camp and he didn't know anyone. After the first day, he felt very comfortable and met lots of friends. He enjoyed swimming, crafts, and field time. He can't wait to come back next summer and I'm looking forward to my youngest child being able to enjoy camp at Glenwood as well! Thank you! Kori
  • Just a quick note to let you know how much my son is enjoying camp this week. When I picked him up on Tuesday, I asked him how his day was and he replied that it "was the best day ever." I learned that his best buddy (also a camper) told his mom the same thing that afternoon! Yet, when I picked my son up yesterday and asked him the same question, he answered that his day "was even better than yesterday". You all must be doing something right to keep these 7 year old's so happy! Thanks and keep up the good work, Beth
  • Hi Mrs. Poland, We're all sad that the kids are missing their last day this summer at Glenwood. I wanted to thank you for everything this summer, specifically for your help in making sure Clark's camp experience ended on a good note. We hope you have a great rest of the summer and we hope to see you again next year. Thanks again! Kori
